- Day 1
Nairobi to Mombasa
Take the 08:00 Madaraka Express from Nairobi Terminus. It reaches Mombasa Terminus in Miritini at about 14:00. If you chose a flight, you land at Moi International Airport in about 1 hour 15 minutes. Our driver meets you with your names on a board and takes you to your hotel on the North Coast. Check in, change into something light and walk the beach before dinner. Dinner is at the hotel. Go to bed early. Day two is the good one.

Slow morning and a sunset dhow
Sleep in. Breakfast runs late at most beach hotels, so there is no rush. Spend the day on the sand or by the pool. Around 16:30 the driver collects you for the sunset dhow cruise along the creek. You sail past the Old Town and Fort Jesus as the light turns gold. On the seaview level we swap this for the Tamarind dhow dinner cruise, which leaves at 18:30 and includes a seafood dinner and one dawa cocktail.

Your free day together
No plan today. That is the plan. Book a couples massage at the hotel spa, read on a sunbed or take a glass bottom boat into Mombasa Marine Park. If you want a little culture, the Fort Jesus and Old Town walk takes two to three hours. We can add any of these on WhatsApp the evening before. Dinner tonight is your last one, so ask the hotel for a table by the water.

Back to Nairobi
Enjoy breakfast and a last swim. Check out is usually at 10:00, but you can leave bags at reception. The driver collects you in time for the 15:00 express train, which reaches Nairobi at about 20:18. Flight guests leave for the airport about two hours before departure. You get home relaxed, with photos you will actually print.

Which hotels do we use for couples and why?
Kahama Hotel sits on Bamburi Beach. It is simple and clean. The price lets you spend on the fun part instead. In 2026 a half board double room was listed at about KES 12,000 a night.
Bamburi Beach Hotel is all inclusive for Kenyan residents. Its 2026 resident rate for a superior double room was about KES 31,000 a night for two, with meals and local drinks covered. Couples who dislike bills love this one.
Serena Beach Resort and Spa sits on Shanzu Beach. Its Swahili style buildings and quiet gardens suit an anniversary. The 2026 East Africa resident offer listed a superior seaview double on half board at about KES 44,000 a night for two.
SGR or flight: what works best for two?
The SGR is cheaper and more scenic. Economy is KES 1,500 one way and first class is KES 4,500. The morning train takes about six hours and the afternoon express about five. Many couples enjoy first class because it feels like the holiday starts in Nairobi.

Are Mombasa packages for couples good value compared with Diani?
Yes, for most couples. The North Coast is closer to the SGR station and the airport, so transfers are shorter and cheaper. You also have more restaurants and tours within 30 minutes.

Can we turn this into a honeymoon or a longer stay?
Yes. Just tell us the occasion. A honeymoon usually runs four or five nights and moves up to a suite or a seaview room. We built a separate plan for that on our Mombasa honeymoon packages page.

When is the best time to book Mombasa packages for couples?
The cheapest months are April to June, when hotels drop rates after Easter. September to mid December is warm, dry and still fairly priced. July and August are busy with overseas visitors.

How to book Mombasa Holiday Packages for Couples

Is all inclusive worth it for a couple in Mombasa?
It is worth it if you drink a few sodas, beers or cocktails a day and like lunch at the hotel. At Bamburi Beach Hotel the resident all inclusive rate covers meals and local drinks. If you plan to eat out in town most days, half board is usually cheaper.
How long is the SGR from Nairobi to Mombasa?
The 08:00 inter county train takes about six hours and reaches Mombasa around 14:00. The 15:00 express takes about five hours and arrives around 20:08. A night train also leaves at 22:00. Economy costs KES 1,500 one way and first class costs KES 4,500.
Do unmarried couples have any problems checking in?
Hotels ask each adult for a national ID or passport at check in. The beach hotels we book do not ask couples for a marriage certificate. We can confirm this with your hotel before you pay. Resident rates also need proof of residence, so carry your ID or work permit.
Can we add a surprise for my partner?
