What a safari costs, set out plainly, so you can tell a fair quote from a bad one. These are our rates and the industry rates we are measured against.
Safari cost per person per day
| Level | What you get | Per person per day |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Camping or basic tented camps outside the parks, shared vehicle | USD 150 to 250 |
| Mid range | Good lodges and tented camps, private vehicle, full board | USD 250 to 400 |
| Luxury | Conservancy camps, off road access, small groups, flying between parks | USD 450 and above |
Where the money goes
Park fees. Maasai Mara entry is USD 100 per adult per day. Tanzania parks and Ngorongoro cost more again. This is government money and no operator can discount it.
The vehicle. A four by four with a pop up roof, fuel and a driver guide is a fixed daily cost whether one person travels or six. This is why solo safaris cost more per head.
Accommodation. The single biggest variable. The same park, the same animals, and a five fold price difference between a camp outside the gate and a conservancy inside.
The guide. A good driver guide is the difference between seeing a lion and understanding what it is doing. Ours are licensed and most have been doing this for over ten years.

How to spot a bad quote
- No park fee breakdown. Ask for it.
- A price far below the park fees plus a bed. Something has been cut.
- No vehicle type named. Minivan and four by four are not the same on a wet Mara road.
- No written inclusions and exclusions.
- Full payment demanded up front with no invoice.
