The Baobab Course
Vipingo Ridge sits less than an hour north of Mombasa, near Kilifi. The Baobab Course is an 18 hole, par 72 layout of 6,586 yards, designed by David Jones and opened in August 2009. The club describes it as Africa’s first and only PGA accredited course.
Giraffe and zebra live on the estate. The course hosted the Magical Kenya Ladies Open in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024, and the club says its driving range is the largest in Kenya. Villas and hotel rooms are on site.

Getting there
Fly into Moi International Airport in Mombasa or take the SGR train from Nairobi. Vipingo Ridge is less than an hour north of Mombasa, so our driver collects you and takes you to your hotel or the estate.
A sample three night stay
Arrive and rest on day one. Play the Baobab Course on day two with an early tee time. Use day three for the beach or a round at Nyali, then fly home on day four.

Who it suits
The course suits golfers who enjoy wide, open fairways and coastal views. It also suits couples, because the beach is close and a non golfer has plenty to do.
Where to stay
Most guests stay at a beach hotel on the north coast and drive in for golf. Some prefer rooms on the estate. Tell us what you like and we price both.
Weather and timing
The coast is warm all year. Tee off early to avoid the midday heat. The driest months are usually January to March and July to September.
Add a safari
Tsavo East is about three hours from the coast by road. Many guests add one or two nights of game drives after golf. It goes on the same quote.
What to bring
Pack light golf clothes, a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water. Buggies are the norm, but the heat still builds by mid morning. A spare glove helps in the humidity.
Non golfers
Partners and families can spend the morning at the beach, by the pool or on a boat trip while you play Vipingo Ridge. Add them as non golfers in the calculator and the price updates.
Groups and company days
Vipingo Ridge suits a company golf day at the coast. We book the tee times, arrange a coach from the hotel and can add prizes and a dinner. Tell us the number of players.
Paying and changing plans
Kenyan residents can pay by M-Pesa or bank transfer, and guests from abroad can pay by card. If your dates move, tell us early and we ask the club and the hotel to change the booking.
Arriving by SGR
The Madaraka Express from Nairobi arrives at Mombasa Terminus in Miritini. Our driver meets you at the station and takes you north to Vipingo Ridge or your hotel.
Best time of year
Vipingo Ridge is open all year. The driest months are usually January to March and July to September. Short showers in the rainy months rarely stop play for long.
Golf and Kilifi
Kilifi Creek, the beaches at Takaungu and the old town of Malindi are all north of the course. Many guests add a night in Kilifi after golf at Vipingo Ridge for a quieter coast stay.
Photos on the course
The Baobab Course has ocean views and big old trees. Our drivers are happy to take a photo of your group on the first tee, and we can book a photographer for a company day.

Ask for time at the driving range and a lesson with a club professional before you play nine holes. Tell us your level and we plan a gentle start.
End of year golf days
December is the busiest month for company golf days at Vipingo Ridge. Book early, ideally by October, to get a good tee time for your team. We can add prizes, a photographer, branded caps and a dinner, and we send one invoice for the whole day.
