Fort Jesus Mombasa Tour
Fort Jesus is a 16th-century Portuguese fortress and UNESCO World Heritage Site standing guard over the entrance to Mombasa’s Old Port. Built in 1593 by the Portuguese to protect their trade route to India, the fort has witnessed centuries of battles between the Portuguese, Arabs, and British, making it one of East Africa’s most significant historical monuments.
What You’ll See
The fort’s Italian-designed architecture features massive coral-stone walls, bastions, and a commanding view of the Indian Ocean. Inside, the museum houses artefacts from the fort’s turbulent history, including Portuguese ceramics, Arab inscriptions, and items recovered from shipwrecks.
