Do Kenyans need a visa to Qatar?
Yes. Kenyan passport holders need a visa to enter Qatar. When Qatar opened visa free entry to 80 countries in 2017, South Africa and Seychelles were the only African countries on the list. Kenya was not included and still is not.
Visit Qatar lists Kenya among nationalities that pay a fee and apply for a tourist visa before travel. The visa you need is the Hayya A1.
How much is a Qatar visa for Kenyans?
The Hayya A1 tourist visa costs QAR 100 per person. That is about KES 3,500. You pay by card on the Hayya platform when you apply. The fee is not refunded if your application is refused.
If you want to stay longer, you can extend once for another 30 days, again for QAR 100. Apply for the extension before your first 30 days end. Overstaying attracts daily fines.
Qatar visa for Kenyans: what documents do you need?
The Hayya form asks for scans and booking details. Have them ready before you start so the form does not time out.
- Passport valid for at least six months from your entry date
- Clear photo of your passport data page
- Recent passport style photo on a plain background
- Confirmed return or onward flight ticket

How long does a Qatar visa for Kenyans take?
Many approvals arrive within a few days. Qatar Insurance reports that processing is usually about ten days and can take up to three weeks in busy periods. Apply at least three weeks before you fly.
Your approved visa arrives by email. Print it and keep a copy on your phone. Immigration at Hamad International Airport checks it with your passport.
Can Kenyans transit through Doha without a visa?
Yes, if you stay airside. Kenyans connecting at Hamad International Airport on one ticket do not need a visa as long as they do not pass immigration.
If you want to leave the airport, you need permission to enter. Visit Qatar says Qatar Airways passengers with a layover of at least six hours, who are not eligible for visa free entry, can apply for a transit visa at the Discover Qatar Transit Desk. Longer stopovers of up to four days are also offered. We confirm the rule for your ticket before you fly. Our Doha stopover packages turn a long layover into a short holiday.
Is Qatar easier than Dubai for Kenyan visitors?
Both are online visas and both are simpler than a Schengen or UK visa. The Qatar fee of QAR 100 is lower than most Dubai tourist visa options sold to Kenyans. Dubai offers more hotels at every budget. Doha is calmer and less crowded.
Many Kenyans combine the two. Read our Dubai visa guide for Kenyans before you plan a two city trip.
When is the best time to visit Qatar from Kenya?
November to March is the most comfortable time. Days are warm but not burning. Evenings are cool enough for the Corniche and desert camps. From June to September daytime heat often passes 40°C.
December is popular with Kenyan families, so book early. If you like football, check the event calendar. Big events push hotel prices up fast.
Four days is enough for a first visit. Spend a day at the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar. Walk Souq Waqif in the evening for grills and spices. Take a desert safari to the dunes at Sealine and the Inland Sea. Keep a free afternoon for Katara Cultural Village or The Pearl.
