Do Kenyans need a visa for China?
Yes. Kenyan passport holders need a visa for mainland China. There is no visa on arrival for Kenyans. China has a 240 hour visa free transit scheme, but Kenya is not on the eligible list.
Hong Kong and Macau have their own entry rules, separate from the mainland. If your trip includes them, ask us to check those rules too.
How much is a China visa for Kenyans?
You pay two fees. The first is the embassy fee. Under the current 25 percent cut it is KES 3,000 for single entry, KES 4,500 for double entry and KES 6,000 or KES 9,000 for multiple entry visas. China extended this cut to 31 December 2026.
The second is the visa centre service fee, reported at about KES 4,958. That brings a single entry visa to roughly KES 8,000. Express service costs more. The centre pays in shillings by Mpesa or card. Prices can change after the fee cut ends, so we confirm the total when you book.
Which China visa type do you need?
Pick the visa that matches what you will do in China. Using the wrong type can lead to refusal or trouble at the border.

- M visa: business, buying goods and trade fairs such as the Canton Fair in Guangzhou
- F visa: exchanges, research and non commercial visits
- X1 or X2 visa: long or short study
- Z visa: work, which needs a work permit from China first

Regular service usually takes about four to seven working days from submission. Express service is faster for an extra fee. The centre gives you a collection date on your receipt.
Apply at least a month before travel. The Canton Fair runs in spring and autumn. Many Kenyan traders apply at the same time. Peak weeks bring queues at the centre.
Tips for Kenyan traders going to Guangzhou
Most Kenyan buyers travel on an M visa with an invitation from a supplier or the fair. Ask your supplier for the letter early, with their business licence copy. A clear invoice history with that supplier helps.
Flights from Nairobi connect through Addis Ababa, Dubai or Doha. Book hotels near your market area to save on taxis. Carry some cash, but expect most local payments to run through Chinese mobile apps. Set them up before you fly.
