A Diani 3 days 2 nights package is the quickest way to swap Nairobi traffic for one of Africa's best known beaches. The secret is the airstrip. Ukunda sits a few minutes from the hotels, so a morning flight has you in the sea before lunch.

If you prefer the train, that works too. The SGR takes you to Mombasa and our driver uses the Dongo Kundu bypass to reach Diani without the ferry. It costs less and takes longer.

Below are five Diani hotels at five price levels, each priced by SGR and by flight. Every option includes return transport, transfers and two nights on the meal plan shown.

Day by day plan

1. Day 1

   Friday: Nairobi to Diani

   Fly from JKIA or Wilson Airport to Ukunda Airstrip in about 1 hour 15 minutes. Our driver meets you and you reach your hotel 10 to 20 minutes later. SGR guests take the 08:00 train, arrive at Mombasa Terminus around 14:00 and drive south for about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. Check in, then walk the beach at low tide, when the sand runs far out to the reef.

2. Day 2

   Saturday: Your Diani day

   Choose one. The Wasini and Kisite day trip leaves early for dolphins, snorkelling and a seafood lunch, returning by late afternoon. Or keep it local: visit Colobus Conservation to see the rare Angolan colobus, take a kitesurfing lesson or simply lie on the sand. In the evening, Diani has more beach restaurants and bars than any other coast town. Tell us what you want by Friday night.

3. Day 3

   Sunday: Back to Nairobi

   Enjoy breakfast and an early swim. Check out is usually at 10:00, but you can leave bags and stay on the beach. Flight guests leave for Ukunda about an hour before departure. SGR guests leave Diani at about noon for the 15:00 express from Mombasa Terminus, which reaches Nairobi around 20:18.

How much is a Diani 3 days 2 nights package?

This Diani weekend costs from KES 24,000 per person sharing by SGR and road, or KES 33,500 by flight. That price uses Diani Cottages on bed and breakfast. Half board at Diani Reef Beach Resort costs from KES 40,500 by train.

Flight or SGR for a Diani 3 days 2 nights package?

On a two night trip, we usually suggest flying. The flight takes about 1 hour 15 minutes and Ukunda is minutes from the beach. Jambojet, Safarilink and Skyward Express serve the route. One way fares have started from about KES 7,000 when booked early.

The SGR saves money but uses most of Friday and Sunday. Economy is KES 1,500 each way. The road from Mombasa Terminus to Diani takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours via the Dongo Kundu bypass. A good middle option is train down and fly back.

Which Diani hotel suits a short weekend?

On a short stay, location and food matter more than facilities you will not have time to use.

Ask for a room close to the beach rather than a bigger room at the back. On a two night stay you will spend most of your waking hours by the water. Ground floor rooms near the pool also suit families with small children. We note these requests on your booking, though the hotel makes the final call at check in.

• Diani Cottages: simple bed and breakfast rooms. Best for travellers who want to eat out on the strip.
• Diani Reef Beach Resort: a large beachfront resort with half board or all inclusive. Best for an easy weekend with no planning.
• Swahili Beach Resort: Swahili style architecture and pools. Best for couples and photos.
• The Sands at Nomad: a boutique beach hotel. Best for a special occasion.

What can I do on the free day of a Diani 3 days 2 nights package?

Pick one main activity so you still get beach time. These are the most booked from Diani:

• Wasini Island and Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park: dolphins, snorkelling and lunch, about USD 80 to 145 per adult depending on the operator
• Colobus Conservation guided walk
• Kitesurfing lesson, best from about December to March and June to September when the trade winds blow
• Shimba Hills day trip for elephants and Sheldrick Falls
• Skydiving over the beach for the brave

When is the best time for a Diani weekend?

September to mid December and January to March are dry, warm and good for the sea. April to June is the long rains season, so expect showers but lower rates and fewer guests.

Avoid booking two nights over Christmas and New Year. Many hotels set 3 to 5 night minimums then. Easter and the August school holidays also fill early, so book four to six weeks ahead.

Check the tide too. Diani's lagoon is calm and shallow at low tide, which is great for children and for walking far out. At high tide the water comes close to the hotels. Reception usually posts the tide times each day, so plan your swim around them.

What extras should I budget for in Diani?

Most guests spend something on top of the package. Plan for meals outside your meal plan, one outing and a few drinks. These are the 2026 figures we found, so you can budget before you go.

Diani is spread out along one long beach road. Tuk tuks and boda bodas are everywhere for short hops, but agree the fare before you get in. For evening trips to restaurants further along the strip, ask your hotel to call a taxi it trusts.

Is Diani better than Mombasa for a weekend?

Diani is better if you want a wide white beach and a quieter feel. Mombasa North Coast is better if you want shorter transfers from the train and more town outings.

Can I extend the trip or add a safari?

Yes. A third night adds about KES 6,000 to KES 26,000 per person depending on the hotel. It turns the weekend into a real rest.

How to book Diani Weekend Packages: 3 Days 2 Nights

1. Send your dates. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates, how many people are coming and the ages of any children. Tell us your budget. We plan with it, not around it.
2. Get a written quote. We reply with a clear price per person, what it includes and what it does not. If a cheaper hotel or a shorter route makes more sense, we say so.
3. Tweak it until it fits. Change a hotel, add a night or swap an activity. Changes cost nothing until you confirm.
4. Confirm with a deposit. A deposit holds your rooms, seats and transport. You get a written confirmation with every detail and the date the balance is due.
5. Travel day. Your driver meets you with a name board. You have their number and ours for the whole trip.
