Kenya Tanzania tour packages with Indian food are our answer to the most common worry we hear from Indian families. Will there be something to eat? Yes. Kenya has one of the oldest Indian communities in Africa. Chapati, rice, beans, dal and vegetable curries are everyday food here. Nairobi alone has many pure vegetarian restaurants.
The hard part is not finding veg food. It is getting the same standard in a tented camp three hours from the nearest town. That is where planning matters. We write your food rules to every lodge before you land. Your driver guide carries a copy. If the kitchen gets it wrong, he fixes it with the chef that same day.
This page shows a real 9 day route, honest guide prices in KES and USD. It also explains how we handle pure veg, Jain and no onion no garlic meals. If you only want Kenya, see our Kenya tour packages from India for shorter trips.

Day by day plan
- Day 1
Arrive in Nairobi
Most direct flights from Mumbai land in the morning or late at night. We meet you at the arrivals hall with your name on a board. Drive to your hotel in Westlands or Parklands, the area with the most Indian restaurants. Rest after the flight. In the evening we book a pure vegetarian dinner close to the hotel. Night in Nairobi.
- Day 2
Nairobi to the Masai Mara
Leave after breakfast. The drive takes about 5 to 6 hours with a stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint. Lunch is at your lodge, where the chef already has your food note. In the afternoon you go on your first game drive. Back at the lodge by sunset. Jain guests who prefer to eat before dark can have an early dinner served. Night in the Mara.
- Day 3
Full day in the Masai Mara
A full day of game drives in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. We carry a packed lunch made to your rules, plus fruit, nuts and drinking water. From July to October the great migration is usually here and river crossings are possible. In other months the resident cats keep things lively. Evening at the lodge. Night in the Mara.
- Day 4
Masai Mara to Nairobi
A short morning game drive, then breakfast and the drive back to Nairobi. Arrive mid afternoon. The evening is free for shopping or a visit to an Indian sweet shop in Parklands. Dinner at an Indian restaurant of your choice. Night in Nairobi.
- Day 5
Nairobi to Arusha via Namanga
Early start for the road to Tanzania. The drive to the Namanga border takes about 2.5 hours. We help you through Kenya exit and Tanzania entry. Your Tanzania guide meets you on the other side with a second 4×4. Continue to Arusha, about 2 hours more. Arusha has pure vegetarian Indian restaurants, so dinner is easy tonight. Night in Arusha.
- Day 6
Arusha to the Serengeti
A long and scenic day. Drive up through the Ngorongoro highlands and down onto the Serengeti plains. Lunch is packed to your rules. Game viewing starts on the way to your lodge. Arrive in the late afternoon. The lodge has your food note and the chef will ask if anything needs changing. Night in the Serengeti.
- Day 7
Full day in the Serengeti
Morning and afternoon game drives in the central Serengeti. This area has resident lions, leopards and cheetahs all year. Between December and March the herds move south to calve. From June to October many cross north towards Kenya. Your guide plans the day around where the animals are. Night in the Serengeti.
- Day 8
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Leave early and drive to the crater rim. Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive on the crater floor. Look for black rhino, lions, hippos and flamingos. Picnic lunch by the hippo pool, packed to your rules. Climb out in the afternoon and drive to Karatu, a cool farming town on the highlands. Night in Karatu.
- Day 9
Karatu to Arusha and home
Breakfast and drive to Arusha, about 2.5 hours. We drop you at Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home. You can also ride back to Nairobi by shuttle or fly to Nairobi to connect with a direct flight to Mumbai.

What do Kenya Tanzania tour packages with Indian food include?
They include the safari plus a food plan you can trust. Every lodge on this route gets a written note before you arrive. It lists who is pure veg, who is Jain and who eats eggs. It also says if you avoid onion, garlic or root vegetables. Your guide keeps the same note in the vehicle.
Lodge buffets in Kenya and Tanzania always carry vegetarian dishes. Mara Serena Safari Lodge, for example, states that vegetarian options are served at breakfast, lunch and bush dinners. The note makes sure there is a full plate for you and not just salad and bread.
Can Jain travellers eat well on safari?
Yes, with notice. Jain food means no meat, fish or eggs and no root vegetables such as onion, garlic, potato and carrot. Some families also eat before sunset. Lodges can do this when they know in advance. They cannot do it well if you tell them at the table.
We ask the kitchen for simple dishes: dal without onion or garlic, rice, chapati, cooked greens, paneer or tofu where they stock it plus fresh fruit. We also suggest you pack khakhra, thepla and dry snacks for game drives. Nairobi has a large Jain community, so we can top up dry snacks in Parklands before you leave for the Mara.
- Tell us your rules when you book, not at the lodge
- Pack dry snacks for long drives and picnic days
- Ask for early dinner if you do not eat after sunset
- Carry a printed food card in English to show staff
How much does a Masai Mara trip cost from India?
On this route the safari part costs from KES 345,500 (about USD 2,680) per person in a group of four. Add return flights from Mumbai. Direct flights run on IndiGo, Kenya Airways and Air India and take about 6 hours. Skyscanner showed return fares from about INR 40,000 to 44,000.
The biggest swing is the Mara park fee. Non resident adults pay USD 100 per day from January to June and USD 200 per day from July to December. On a two day Mara stay that alone moves your price by USD 200. See our Masai Mara entry fees guide for the full list.

Which visas and vaccines do Indian travellers need?
Kenya needs an eTA, applied for online. The normal fee is USD 30 and approval takes up to 3 working days. Tanzania needs a visa for Indian passports. The single entry eVisa costs USD 50 on the official immigration portal. Apply 2 to 3 weeks before you fly. Read our Kenya visa for Indians guide for the steps.
Get a yellow fever vaccine at least 10 days before you leave India. Tanzania can ask for the certificate when you cross from Kenya. India also checks it when you fly home from Africa. Talk to your doctor about malaria tablets too.
Where do you eat in Nairobi and Arusha?
In Nairobi we base you in Westlands or Parklands. Diamond Plaza in Parklands is known for Indian street food and pure vegetarian restaurants. Chowpaty there is often named the best vegetarian restaurant in the city.
Arusha is smaller but still easy. Five Chutneys on Azimio Street is a pure vegetarian Indian restaurant. Other places serve Indian menus with large veg sections. We book a table on your city nights so you do not wander about after a long drive.
Why choose Kenya Tanzania tour packages with Indian food instead of a group tour?
Big group tours often fix one menu for everyone. A private trip lets your guide stop for lunch when your family is hungry and choose lodges that cook to your rules. You also choose your dates, which matters if you plan around Diwali or school holidays.
Private does not mean expensive. In a group of four the vehicle cost is shared. The price per person is close to a joining tour. For a cheaper shared option see our Kenya and Tanzania budget safari.
When is the best time for Kenya Tanzania tour packages with Indian food?
July to October is the classic time. The migration is in the Masai Mara and the northern Serengeti. Indian school holidays in May and June sit just before it. Prices are highest then.
January and February are a smart choice for Indian families. Calving season fills the southern Serengeti, the Mara fee is half and lodges are quieter. April and May bring the long rains, so we avoid them unless you want the lowest prices. Our great migration calendar shows where the herds are each month.

Questions people ask
Do safari lodges in Kenya serve Indian vegetarian food?
Yes. Most lodge buffets have vegetarian dishes every meal. Many cook dal, rice, chapati and vegetable curry because these are common in Kenya. The quality is best when the lodge knows in advance. We send your food rules in writing to each lodge before you arrive, so the kitchen plans a full meal for you.
Is Jain food available in Tanzania safari lodges?
It can be arranged with notice. Lodges in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro area can cook without onion, garlic and root vegetables when told early. Choice is simpler than in a city, so pack dry snacks such as khakhra and thepla. Arusha town has pure vegetarian Indian restaurants for your city nights.
How much does a Kenya and Tanzania trip cost from India?
Our 9 day private trip costs from KES 345,500 (about USD 2,680) per person sharing in a group of four, January to June. From July to December it is about KES 414,000 (USD 3,210). Add return flights from India, which start from about INR 40,000 on direct routes, plus visas and tips.
Are there direct flights from Mumbai to Nairobi?
Yes. IndiGo, Kenya Airways and Air India fly direct between Mumbai and Nairobi. The flight takes about 6 hours. Fares change daily, so book early for July, August and December. If you end your trip in Arusha, you can fly home from Kilimanjaro airport with a connection or return to Nairobi first.
Do Indians need a visa for Kenya and Tanzania?
Kenya needs an eTA, which costs USD 30 and is approved within about 3 working days. Tanzania needs a visa. The single entry eVisa costs USD 50 on the official portal and can take up to 10 days. Carry printed copies of both, plus your yellow fever certificate.
How many days do I need for Kenya and Tanzania together?
Nine days is a comfortable minimum for the Masai Mara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Fewer days means very long drives. If you only have 5 or 6 days, choose Kenya only and spend two or three nights in the Mara. Add Zanzibar for 3 or 4 extra days if you want a beach finish.
