Why Choose Tsavo Packages for Residents
Tsavo packages for residents suit anyone who wants a real safari on a modest budget. The park is large, the roads are open and the animals are many. It is also close to the coast, so you can pair it with a beach trip.
Tsavo packages for residents are priced in KES. Rates for citizens and residents are in KES and far lower than non resident USD rates. Many camps and lodges publish them. We pass these on and show the park fee separately so you see what you pay.
If you prefer Nairobi’s surroundings, see our weekend getaways from Nairobi.
What Tsavo Packages for Residents Cost
For Tsavo packages for residents, a shared van trip to a budget camp starts at KES 17,800 per adult. A mid range camp costs about KES 23,500. Four people in a private van pay about KES 24,500 each at a budget camp.
Two people travelling by SGR to Voi with a private Land Cruiser pay about KES 38,500 each. These prices cover transport, meals, game drives and two nights. The park fee is extra.
Resident Park Fees in Tsavo
Tsavo packages for residents carry KWS fees, since Tsavo East and Tsavo West are run by KWS. A citizen adult pays about KES 1,200 per day. A resident adult pays about KES 1,700 per day. Non residents pay about USD 80 per day since Oct 2025.
We show these fees as a separate line. Rates change, so we confirm them at booking. Our Kenya park entry fees guide explains the three tier system. Children pay lower fees and young children are often free.

Tsavo East or Tsavo West?
Tsavo West is greener and more varied. It has Mzima Springs, lava flows and a rhino sanctuary. Tsavo East is flatter and drier, with wide plains and large elephant herds that turn red with dust.
Tsavo West is closer to Nairobi, about 4 to 5 hours by road. Tsavo East is easier by SGR, since Voi station is near the Voi gate. For a mix, our 3 day Tsavo East and Tsavo West safari covers both.
SGR to Voi: The Cheap and Easy Route
The SGR economy fare from Nairobi to Voi costs about KES 700 to 1,000 each way. The train takes about 3 hours. A safari vehicle meets you at Voi station and drives to the park gate.
This saves you a long drive and cuts cost for solo travellers and couples. See our SGR Nairobi to Mombasa guide for fares and schedules. Book early for holiday weekends, since seats sell out.
Best Time for Tsavo Packages for Residents
For Tsavo packages for residents, Jun to Oct and Jan to Mar are the driest months. Animals gather near water and are easy to find. Roads are firm and dust is common.
Nov and Apr to May are wetter. The park is green and quiet and camp rates drop. Tsavo is hot in every month, so mornings and evenings are best. Read our Kenya safari month by month guide for weather detail.
Mzima Springs, Lava Flows and Rhinos
Mzima Springs sends out millions of litres of clear water every day, filtered through volcanic rock from the Chyulu Hills. A path leads to an underwater viewing hide, where you can watch hippos and fish.
Nearby are the Shetani lava flows, black and jagged from a recent eruption. The Ngulia rhino sanctuary protects black rhinos behind a fence. Many guests say Tsavo packages for residents are worth it for Mzima alone. See our 3 day Tsavo West safari for more.
Red Elephants and the Man Eaters of Tsavo
Tsavo elephants roll in red soil and turn the colour of rust. Herds often cross the road in a long line. They are Kenya’s most photographed elephants.
The park also has a famous history. In 1898 two lions killed railway workers on the Tsavo River. Their story became a book and a film. Your guide can tell the full story at the very spot where it happened. Lions in Tsavo are strong and Tsavo packages for residents include a chance to see them.
Salt Lick and the Taita Hills
Salt Lick Lodge sits on stilts above a waterhole in the Taita Hills Sanctuary. Elephants and buffalo come to drink right below your room. It is a favourite with local families.
You can add a night at Salt Lick to your package for an extra fee. See our 3 day Taita Hills and Tsavo East safari for a plan. The Taita Hills are cool, green and close to Voi.
A Sample Budget for a Couple
A couple on the SGR plus Land Cruiser mid range plan pays about KES 95,000 for the 3 days. Add park fees of about KES 10,200 for residents over 3 days and KES 3,000 for tips.
A couple in a shared van at a budget camp pays about KES 35,600, plus park fees. We list everything in one written quote, so Tsavo packages for residents are easy to compare. Prices stay the same whether you pay upfront or in instalments.
What to Pack for Tsavo
Tsavo is hot and dusty. Pack light cotton, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a scarf. Add a fleece for dawn drives. Closed shoes are best.
Our safari packing checklist covers more. Carry binoculars, a camera and a power bank. Bring cash for tips and a reusable water bottle.
Camps and Lodges at Local Rates
Under Tsavo packages for residents, most Tsavo lodges publish KES rates. Budget camps have simple tents or bandas. Mid range camps have large tents or rooms with private bathrooms and a pool. Upmarket lodges, such as those at Kilaguni, have views over a waterhole.
Published resident rates at the upmarket end run about KES 29,500 to 31,550 for the first night per person sharing. We choose by value and location.
- Budget: simple tents or bandas, hot water and full board
- Mid range: large tents or rooms, a pool and a waterhole view
- Upmarket: a lodge with a waterhole terrace and a swimming pool

Why book with a Nairobi team
We live here. We drive these roads all year, we know which camps are honest about their photos and we know when a park is too busy to enjoy. That local knowledge is what turns a good Tsavo packages for residents into a great one. Our Google rating sits at 4.9 from 47 reviews and we plan to keep it that way.

Questions people ask
How much is a Tsavo package for Kenyan residents?
Tsavo packages for residents start at about KES 17,800 per adult for a 3 day shared van trip to a budget camp. Mid range camps cost about KES 23,500. SGR plus a private Land Cruiser for two costs about KES 38,500 per adult.
What proof of residency do I need to get resident rates?
Citizens show a Kenyan ID or passport. Residents show a valid residency permit or work permit. Carry the original, since gate staff and lodges check it and they may refuse the lower rate without proof.
What is the difference between citizen and resident park fees in Kenya?
Citizens pay the lowest rate, about KES 1,200 per day in Tsavo. Residents pay slightly more, about KES 1,700 per day. Non residents pay USD rates of about USD 80. We confirm the exact fee at booking.
Are park fees included in resident packages?
No. Park fees are a separate line, because citizens and residents pay different rates. Tsavo packages for residents list the fee per person per day. You can pay it with your instalments or at the end.
What is the cheapest month to travel locally in Kenya?
Apr to Jun and Nov usually have the lowest camp rates. Jan to Mar is also good value. Jul to Oct and the festive period carry higher rates and need earlier booking.
Can I go to Tsavo by train?
Yes. Take the SGR from Nairobi to Voi in about 3 hours and our vehicle meets you at the station. It is a stress free route with no highway traffic. Economy fares are about KES 700 to 1,000 each way.
Can I extend to Amboseli or the coast?
Yes. Tsavo sits between Nairobi and Mombasa, so it combines well with a coast break or with Amboseli. Ask for a custom plan and a written quote. See our Amboseli packages for residents for the neighbouring park.
Is Tsavo suitable for children?
Yes, for children over 5. Drives can be long and hot, so pack hats, water and games. Children pay about half the camp rate for ages 3 to 12. Park fees are lower for children too.
