This guide gives the Amboseli entrance fee for every visitor group from the KWS conservation fee schedule that took effect on 1 October 2025. KWSPay still charges these rates in late 2026. Amboseli is now a Premium park, together with Lake Nakuru, so it costs more than Tsavo or Nairobi.
The fee is per person per 24 hours. So a two night safari means paying for each day you spend inside. We run Amboseli day trips and overnight safaris every week, so these are the rates our drivers pay. Prices are checked against KWS at booking.

What is the Amboseli entrance fee in 2026?
An adult East African citizen pays KES 1,500 a day and a child pays KES 750. Kenya residents pay KES 2,025 per adult and KES 1,050 per child. Non residents pay USD 90 per adult and USD 45 per child. Citizens of other African countries pay USD 50 and USD 25.
Before October 2025 a citizen paid KES 860 and a non resident USD 60. The new Premium rate puts Amboseli at the top of the KWS price list, level with Lake Nakuru.
How does the Amboseli entrance fee work for a 2 or 3 day safari?
A ticket covers one entry for up to 24 hours. If you sleep in a lodge inside the park, you pay a new day fee each day you are inside. Lodges just outside the park, such as those near Kimana, let you choose which days to drive in.
Example: two adult citizens on a 3 day trip with two days inside the park pay KES 6,000 in park fees. Two non residents pay USD 360. That is why many travellers stay outside and enter for a full day.
Do combo tickets with Tsavo save money?
Yes. If you visit Tsavo West and Amboseli on one continuous trip, the combo costs KES 2,200 per adult citizen. Buying them apart would cost KES 2,500. For non residents the combo is USD 150 against USD 170.
The three park combo with Tsavo East, Tsavo West and Amboseli is KES 3,000 per adult citizen and USD 215 per non resident. Separate tickets would be KES 3,500 and USD 250. Buy the combo in one payment before the first park. Our Tsavo entrance fees guide covers the Tsavo side.

How to pay the Amboseli entrance fee on eCitizen
You pay through KWSPay on eCitizen with Mpesa or a card. KWS gates do not take cash. Network at the Amboseli gates is weak, so pay before you leave Emali or Namanga.
On a tour with us, park fees are part of your price. We pay them and send you the tickets.
- Open kwspay.ecitizen.go.ke and choose single park entry or a package
- Pick your date and visitor group
- Add adults, children and your vehicle by seat count
- Pay with Mpesa or card
- Screenshot the QR code ticket
What extra fees apply inside Amboseli?
Your vehicle pays a daily fee by seat count. A car with under 6 seats is KES 600. A safari van with 6 to 12 seats is KES 1,500.
Hot air balloon flights carry a KWS fee of USD 80 per adult and USD 40 per child for each landing, on top of what the balloon company charges. Night game drives at parks that allow them cost KES 3,000 for citizens and residents and USD 50 for others, plus entry.
Camping is a Premium rate. A public campsite is KES 250 per adult citizen and USD 30 per non resident adult.
Who pays the citizen, resident or non resident rate?
East African citizens show a national ID or EAC passport. Kenya residents are foreigners with a valid resident permit or alien card. Every other visitor pays the non resident rate. Students up to 23 on an organised school trip pay the child rate.
Kenyan citizens aged 70 and over enter free. So do persons with disabilities. Bring proof.
Gates, opening hours and the best time to visit
The park opens at 6am and closes at 6pm. Kimana Gate is on the east side, used by most traffic from Emali. Meshanani and Iremito gates serve visitors from the Namanga side.
From Nairobi the drive takes four to five hours. Kilimanjaro shows best in the early morning, before clouds build. June to October and January to February are dry, so animals gather at the swamps and the mountain is clearer.
How to plan your Amboseli trip
A day trip works if you leave Nairobi by 5am. Most people prefer one or two nights. Try the 2 day Amboseli safari or the 3 day Amboseli safari.
Kenyan families like our Amboseli packages for residents with resident lodge rates. To use the combo ticket, take the Amboseli and Tsavo West safari.
Questions people ask
What are KWS park fees for Amboseli in 2026?
Adult East African citizens pay KES 1,500 a day and children KES 750. Kenya residents pay KES 2,025 and KES 1,050. Non residents pay USD 90 and USD 45. Citizens of other African countries pay USD 50 and USD 25. Your vehicle pays a separate daily fee from KES 600.
Are Amboseli charges different for residents and non residents?
Yes. A Kenya resident adult pays KES 2,025 a day while a non resident adult pays USD 90, which is about KES 11,600. East African citizens pay the lowest rate of KES 1,500. Your rate depends on the ID you show, so bring your ID, permit or passport.
Do I pay Amboseli fees every day?
Yes. A ticket covers one entry for up to 24 hours. If you stay inside the park for two nights, you pay for each day you are inside. Staying at a lodge outside the park lets you enter only on the days you want to game drive.
Can I pay Amboseli fees in cash?
No. KWS gates are cashless. You pay on KWSPay through eCitizen with Mpesa or a card. Pay before you reach the gate, because network around Amboseli is weak. Save the QR code ticket as a screenshot. Tour operators pay the fees for you as part of the tour price.
Is the Amboseli and Tsavo combo ticket worth it?
Yes, if you visit the parks on one trip. The Tsavo West and Amboseli combo saves an adult citizen KES 300 and a non resident USD 20. The three park combo saves KES 500 and USD 35. You must buy it in one payment and use it on a continuous trip.
Did the court stop the new Amboseli fees?
The High Court suspended the new KWS fees for a short time in October 2025 after a case by the Kenya Tourism Federation. KWSPay has charged the October 2025 rates since then. They are the rates in force in late 2026. We check the live price on KWSPay when you book.
Sources we checked: Kenya Wildlife Service conservation fees, October 2025 (official PDF); KWSPay on eCitizen (official payment portal); Bizna Kenya: park fees in force, October 2026; Business Daily: court halts higher park fees (Oct 2025). Rules and fees change, so we confirm them again when you book.
