Below you find the day by day plan, three price tiers, the fees behind them and the questions travellers ask most about this long route.

Highlights

  • Masai Mara and Serengeti, the two great migration parks
  • Ngorongoro Crater with black rhino and dense game
  • Three nights in the Serengeti for long game drive days
  • Flight from the Serengeti to Zanzibar, no long road back
  • Four beach nights plus Stone Town and spice farm visits
  • One itinerary, booked and priced by us from Nairobi

Day by day plan

  1. Day 1

    Nairobi to the Masai Mara

You leave Nairobi at 6:30 am and drive to the Mara, stopping at the Rift Valley viewpoint. You reach camp for lunch and head out on your first game drive in the afternoon. Lions and elephants are often near camp. Dinner is by the fire and your guide briefs you on the next day.

  2. Day 2

Full day in the Masai Mara

A full day of game drives from first light. Your guide tracks lion prides and cheetah on the plains and visits the Mara River for hippos. A picnic lunch is served in the bush and you return to camp for sundowners and dinner.

  3. Day 3

    Mara to Nairobi

After a short dawn game drive you return to Nairobi, about 5 to 6 hours. You sleep in a city hotel, with time to shower, repack and enjoy dinner.

  4. Day 4

    Nairobi to Arusha

You drive to Namanga, about 3 hours and complete border formalities. The road continues to Arusha, about 2 hours more. You rest at your hotel with the afternoon free and you can walk to a local cafe or market if you have the energy.

  5. Day 5

Arusha to Lake Manyara and Karatu

You drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive among baboons, giraffe and birds. You continue to Karatu, on the rim of the Ngorongoro highlands and sleep at a lodge.

  6. Day 6

Ngorongoro Crater and on to the Serengeti

You descend into the crater at dawn for lion, black rhino, hippo and flamingos. The crater floor is flat and open, so sightings are close and photographs are easy. After a picnic lunch you drive on to the Serengeti, arriving at your camp before dark.

  7. Day 7

    Full day in the Serengeti

You spend the day on the plains, looking for cats in the Seronera area, where leopards rest in the trees. A picnic lunch is served in the bush. You return at sunset.

  8. Day 8

Second full day in the Serengeti

Your guide moves you to where the herds are, using radio tips from other guides and knowledge of recent rain. South in Jan to Mar, west in May to Jun and north from Jul to Oct. Long drives pay off with big herds and hunting predators.

  9. Day 9

    Serengeti to Zanzibar

After a final dawn game drive you fly from a Serengeti airstrip to Zanzibar, with a connection in Arusha. The trip takes about 4 hours. You reach your beach hotel in the afternoon.

  10. Day 10

Stone Town and a spice farm

A local guide leads you through Stone Town’s narrow streets, past Sultan’s Palace, the old slave market and carved doors. You visit a spice farm and taste fresh cloves and cinnamon. You return to the beach for sunset.

  11. Day 11

    Beach day

Today has no plan. Swim, snorkel, nap and read. The hotel arranges massages, dhow trips and diving if you want them. Dinner is seafood on the sand, with the tide coming in and the stars out.

  12. Day 12

    Beach day or Prison Island

Take an optional boat trip to Prison Island to meet giant tortoises, or swim with dolphins at Kizimkazi. Or have another slow day. Evening is free.

  13. Day 13

    Zanzibar to Nairobi and home

After breakfast you fly to Nairobi, about 1 hour 30 minutes and connect to your onward flight. We can also arrange a Nairobi hotel for the night if needed.

Why Pick a 13 Day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar Safari

Most visitors choose between Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar. A 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari lets you skip that choice. You see the Mara and the Serengeti, then rest on an island where the pace slows to a walk.

If you only want the Tanzania safari and beach, our Zanzibar beach and safari experience is shorter. For a Kenya based plan, see Kenya safari and Zanzibar.

How Much Is a 13 Day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar Safari?

Prices start at USD 5,000 per person for six people sharing a budget tier in low season. Two people in mid range pay about USD 7,880 each and two people in luxury pay about USD 9,930.

Tanzania fees and flights make a 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari a premium trip and the table above shows the spread across tiers. Our Tanzania safari packages and prices page shows how fees change by season.

The Fees Built Into the Price

Fees are charged per adult per day and are already inside the price. These are approximate non resident rates for 2026, so confirm at booking.

  • Masai Mara: USD 100 a day Jan to Jun, USD 200 a day Jul to Dec
  • Serengeti: about USD 82 per day including VAT
  • Ngorongoro Crater: conservation fee plus a service fee of about USD 295 per vehicle
  • Lake Manyara: about USD 59 per day
13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari: what you will see

The Serengeti Section and Border Logistics

On a 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari, three nights in the Serengeti means two full game drive days. The park is huge and the herds move with the rains. Your camp location can matter as much as the driver.

We match your camp to the month. Central camps give good cat viewing all year. Northern camps suit Jul to Oct crossings and southern camps suit Jan to Mar calving. Read our Great Migration calendar for dates.

This 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari has two border crossings in one trip, Kenya to Tanzania by road at Namanga, then Tanzania to Zanzibar by air. Your guide handles forms and your passport should have six months of validity.

Tanzania may ask for a yellow fever certificate because you arrive from Kenya. Keep the card in your hand luggage. Weight limits on small aircraft are usually 15 kg in soft bags.

The Zanzibar Finish

The island finish on a 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari offers two beach areas to choose from and we help you pick. The north, around Nungwi and Kendwa, has swimmable water at any tide. The east, around Paje and Jambiani, has wide sand and strong kite surfing winds, but low tide pulls the sea far out.

Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a good half day of culture. For more on island stays see our Zanzibar packages from Nairobi.

Best Time for a 13 Day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar Safari

Jul to Oct is the best window for the Mara and northern Serengeti, with the migration crossings. Jan to Mar is good for the southern Serengeti and the beach. Jun and Nov are quieter months with decent weather.

Apr and May are wet and some camps close, but prices drop. Our best time to visit Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda page shows the monthly weather.

Wildlife and Highlights by Stage

A 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari gives you four very different settings and each has its own highlights.

  • Masai Mara: lion, cheetah, leopard and Mara River hippos
  • Lake Manyara: tree climbing lions in some seasons, flamingos and baboons
  • Ngorongoro Crater: black rhino and the densest game in Tanzania
  • Serengeti: migration herds, leopards in kopjes and golden sunsets
  • Zanzibar: Stone Town, spice farms, tortoises and warm shallow water

Health, Insurance and Packing

Take malaria tablets and carry a yellow fever certificate. Pack light layers for the cool Ngorongoro rim, which can fall to 8 degrees at night, plus swimwear for the island. Small aircraft limit bags to about 15 kg in soft duffels.

Travel insurance should include evacuation, because Serengeti camps are far from hospitals. Read our Kenya travel insurance and AMREF Flying Doctors guide and the Kenya safari packing list before your 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari.

Who This Trip Suits

This 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari suits travellers with two weeks of leave who want to see more than one country. It suits honeymooners, couples marking an anniversary and families with teenagers. It suits photographers who like variety in light and landscape.

It does not suit anyone who hates long travel days, because three days involve 5 to 8 hours of driving or flying. Slower alternatives include our 10 day Kenya and Tanzania safari.

Booking a 13 Day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar Safari

Send your dates, group size and tier on WhatsApp at +254 720 731957. We reply with a written quote and flight options.

For Jul to Oct we suggest booking six to nine months ahead, because Serengeti camps and Zanzibar hotels sell out together.

How to book your 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari

Booking your 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari with us takes about five minutes of your time. The rest is our job. Here is exactly what happens, step by step, so there are no surprises along the way.

  1. Send your dates. Message us on WhatsApp with your travel dates, how many people are coming and the ages of any children. Tell us if you have a budget in mind. We plan with it, not around it.
  2. Get a written quote. We reply with a clear price per person, what it includes and what it does not. No hidden park fees and no vague extras. If a cheaper camp or a shorter route makes more sense, we say so.
  3. Tweak it until it fits. Change a camp, add a night or swap a park. Ask as many questions as you like. Changes cost nothing until you confirm.
  4. Confirm with a deposit. A deposit holds your vehicle, guide and rooms. You get a written confirmation with every detail and the date the balance is due.
  5. Travel day. Your driver guide meets you at your hotel or the airport with a name board. You have their number and ours for the whole trip.

What every trip with us includes

Every 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari plan we put together comes with the basics done properly. You ride in a safari vehicle with a pop up roof, with a professional driver guide who knows the parks. Water is in the cooler box and park fees are sorted in advance so you do not stand in a queue at the gate.

We also stay reachable. If something changes on the road, a flat tyre, a closed route or a sudden storm, we sort it and keep you posted on WhatsApp.

Paying safely

We share payment details in writing only and every payment gets a receipt. The payment options and the balance date sit on your written quote, so nothing is left to memory or a phone call.

Why book with a Nairobi team

We live here. We drive these roads all year, we know which camps are honest about their photos and we know when a park is too busy to enjoy. That local knowledge is what turns a good 13 day Kenya Tanzania Zanzibar safari into a great one. Our Google rating sits at 5.0 from 46 reviews and we plan to keep it that way.

Ready when you are. Send us a message and we will put a plan together for you shortly.
