Samburu Special Five Safari
Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya is famous for the Special Five — five unique species found nowhere else in Kenya’s popular southern parks. A Samburu safari offers a completely different wildlife experience from the Masai Mara.
The Special Five
1. Grevy’s Zebra: The largest and most endangered zebra species, with narrow stripes and large rounded ears. Fewer than 3,000 remain in the wild.
2. Reticulated Giraffe: Distinguished by clearly defined dark patches separated by bright white lines — stunning for photography.
3. Somali Ostrich: The blue-necked cousin of the common ostrich, found only in the Horn of Africa.
4. Gerenuk: The “giraffe gazelle” that stands on its hind legs to browse — one of Africa’s most elegant antelopes.
5. Beisa Oryx: A striking antelope with long, rapier-like horns and dramatic face markings.
