Moi International Airport and the SGR terminus at Miritini sit on the mainland side of Mombasa. Nyali and Bamburi are a short hop north. Diani needs the Likoni ferry or the bypass. Watamu and Malindi are a long road north. Authentic Adventures runs its own vehicles and a team of about 15, and we plan each pickup around your arrival time and your beach.
This page lists fixed guide rates, drive times and the practical details that decide whether your first coast evening is a cold drink or a queue. Our Google rating is 5.0 from 46 reviews. Send your flight or train details on WhatsApp for a written price.

Day by day plan
- Step 1
Send your arrival details
Message us your flight number or SGR train time, passenger count, bags and the name of your hotel or villa. We reply with a written price and your driver’s name. If you are not sure of the exact hotel yet, tell us the beach and we plan the route and confirm the stop later.
- Step 2
Meet your driver
At Moi International Airport your driver waits outside arrivals with a board showing your name. At Miritini he waits near the station exit, because the SGR terminal is spread out and busy. He helps with bags, gives you a cold bottle of water and walks you to an air conditioned vehicle.
- Step 3
Drive to your beach
Your driver chooses the best road for the hour. That may be the Nyali bridge, the Likoni ferry or the southern bypass. You are dropped at your hotel gate or villa door. For the trip home, we collect you at the agreed time and get you to the airport or station with room to spare.

How Mombasa Airport Transfers Work
Most coast visitors land at Moi International Airport at Port Reitz, about 10 km from the city centre. Others arrive by train at the Madaraka Express terminus in Miritini, a few kilometres from the airport.
Both points sit on the mainland west of Mombasa Island. Every beach road starts from here, so Mombasa airport transfers are really a question of which way you turn, how many of you there are and how much luggage you carry. Our driver knows the answer for your hotel and the hour you land.
Mombasa Airport Transfers Prices to the Beaches
The table lists our guide rates for Mombasa airport transfers. A saloon suits one to three people. An SUV suits a family of four or five with beach bags. A van suits groups, weddings and anyone travelling with a pile of luggage.
Rates are per vehicle, so Mombasa airport transfers work out cheaper per person as the group grows. A family of five splitting an SUV to Diani pays about USD 17 each.
These are guide rates for 2026. The exact price depends on the hotel, the time of day and waiting time, and we confirm it in writing before you pay.
Airport to Nyali, Bamburi and Shanzu
Nyali is the closest big beach, about 20 km from the airport. Allow 40 to 60 minutes. The route crosses Makupa Causeway and the Nyali Bridge, which jams at rush hour. Bamburi and Shanzu are another 10 to 20 minutes further.
These Mombasa airport transfers to the north beaches suit families, and hotels in this strip suit families who want the sea, a pool and restaurants without a long drive. If you want a day out, ask about our Mombasa city tour to Fort Jesus and Old Town, or the Mombasa dhow sunset cruise.

Airport to Diani, Ukunda and Galu
Diani is on the south coast, about 45 to 50 km from the airport. You cross to the south side by the Likoni ferry or by the newer bypass road, depending on traffic and the hour. Allow 1.5 to 2.5 hours in total.
Your driver picks the faster option on the day. The ferry can be a short wait on a quiet morning and a long one at 5 pm. When the ferry is slow and the bypass is open, we use the bypass.
This route is popular with resident families, so we link it to our Diani beach holiday packages and our Diani packages for residents. You can book the beach stay and the ride together.
Airport to Watamu, Kilifi and Malindi
North of Mombasa the road passes Mtwapa, Kikambala and the Kilifi bridge. Watamu is about 110 km from the airport and takes 2 to 2.5 hours. Malindi is about 120 to 130 km and takes 2.5 to 3 hours.
The road is good, but trucks and market towns slow you down. Leave a buffer for Mombasa airport transfers in either direction if you need to catch a flight. Coming from Malindi, we suggest leaving at least five hours before an international departure.
Both beaches work well for a longer stay. See our Watamu and Malindi holiday packages for hotels, or the Watamu Marine Park and Gede Ruins day trip for something to do after you land.
SGR Miritini Pickups for Train Arrivals
The Madaraka Express from Nairobi pulls into the Mombasa terminus at Miritini. It is a modern station but it sits outside town, so you need a vehicle on arrival. Taxis queue, but fares and quality vary.
With Mombasa airport transfers booked ahead, your driver tracks the train. A delay does not leave him at the wrong place. Our SGR Madaraka Express guide explains schedules and how to book, and our Mombasa SGR packages for residents bundle the train with your hotel.
Timing Your Flight, Train and Hotel Check In
Most coast hotels check in from 2 pm and check out by 10 or 11 am. If you land at 8 am, ask for early check in, or store bags and head to the beach. We can wait for you while you sort the room.
For departures, plan to reach Moi International Airport three hours before an international flight and two hours before a domestic one. Add time on the Diani and Likoni side, since the ferry is the only thing we cannot control. Ask us on WhatsApp for a departure time that fits your route.
- Nyali and Bamburi: leave 3.5 hours before an international flight
- Diani: leave 4.5 to 5 hours before
- Watamu and Malindi: leave 5 to 6 hours before
Sample Costs for Families, Couples and Groups
Here is how Mombasa airport transfers add up. A couple flying into Moi International Airport and staying in Nyali pays USD 30 in a saloon, which is USD 15 each. A family of five going to Diani in an SUV pays USD 85 in total. A wedding party of twelve going to Watamu in one van pays USD 190, which is under USD 16 each.
Return Mombasa airport transfers cost the same as arrivals. If you book both ways in one message, we confirm one written quote for the whole stay. For a week of beach days with a driver on call, ask about our car hire rates, because a daily rate can beat several one way rides.
- Couple to Nyali, saloon: USD 30 total
- Family of five to Diani, SUV: USD 85 total
- Twelve friends to Watamu, van: USD 190 total
Meet and Greet Details at the Coast
At Moi International Airport the arrivals area is small, so your driver is easy to spot. Foreign visitors should have the Kenya ETA ready, and returning residents carry their ID. Customs lines are usually short unless two wide body flights land together.
If your phone does not work, ask the airport desk to call the number on your booking message. You can also use airport Wi Fi to reach us on WhatsApp. We answer quickly during the day, and you can message us from the plane.
Road Safety, Night Arrivals and What Our Drivers Do
Coast roads are busy with lorries, tuk tuks and motorbikes. Our drivers hold clean licences, keep the vehicles serviced and do not rush. If you land after dark, we recommend a direct drive to your hotel with no stops.
Good Mombasa airport transfers also mean comfort. Mombasa is hot and humid, so every vehicle runs the air conditioning and carries water. Seat belts are fitted, and we bring child seats on request. Tell us when you book.
Add a Safari, Day Trip or Hotel to Your Coast Transfer
Many guests book Mombasa airport transfers for a beach week and then add a safari. Our 2 day Tsavo East safari from Mombasa and the Shimba Hills day trip start from the coast, so the same driver can collect you and take you on.
We can also arrange your room. Our hotel booking Kenya page explains negotiated rates. Landing in Nairobi first? See our airport transfers Nairobi page.
How to book your Mombasa airport transfers
Booking your Mombasa airport transfers with us takes about five minutes of your time. The rest is our job. Here is exactly what happens, step by step, so there are no surprises along the way.
- Send your dates. Message us on WhatsApp with your travel dates, how many people are coming and the ages of any children. Tell us if you have a budget in mind. We plan with it, not around it.
- Get a written quote. We reply with a clear price per person, what it includes and what it does not. No hidden park fees and no vague extras. If a cheaper camp or a shorter route makes more sense, we say so.
- Tweak it until it fits. Change a camp, add a night or swap a park. Ask as many questions as you like. Changes cost nothing until you confirm.
- Confirm with a deposit. A deposit holds your vehicle, guide and rooms. You get a written confirmation with every detail and the date the balance is due.
- Travel day. Your driver guide meets you at your hotel or the airport with a name board. You have their number and ours for the whole trip.
What every trip with us includes
Every Mombasa airport transfers plan we put together comes with the basics done properly. You ride in a safari vehicle with a pop up roof, with a professional driver guide who knows the parks. Water is in the cooler box, and park fees are sorted in advance so you do not stand in a queue at the gate.
We also stay reachable. If something changes on the road, a flat tyre, a closed route or a sudden storm, we sort it and keep you posted on WhatsApp.
Paying safely
We share payment details in writing only, and every payment gets a receipt. The payment options and the balance date sit on your written quote, so nothing is left to memory or a phone call.
Why book with a Nairobi team
We live here. We drive these roads all year, we know which camps are honest about their photos, and we know when a park is too busy to enjoy. That local knowledge is what turns a good Mombasa airport transfers into a great one. Our Google rating sits at 5.0 from 46 reviews, and we plan to keep it that way.
Ready when you are. Send us a message and we will put a plan together for you shortly.
