Day by day plan
- Day 1
Nairobi to Lake Nakuru
You leave Nairobi at about 7 am and drive through the Rift Valley. Your 13 day Kenya safari beach holiday opens at Nakuru. You reach the lake by lunch and enter the park for an afternoon game drive. Look for rhino, buffalo and Rothschild giraffe. You climb Baboon Cliff at sundown.
- Day 2
Nakuru to the Masai Mara
After a short morning drive you leave for the Mara through Narok. The journey takes five to six hours. You reach camp in the afternoon and head out on a first game drive as the light turns gold.
- Day 3
Full day in the Mara
You leave at first light for a long game drive. Your guide works the plains and the Mara River for lion, cheetah, hippo and crocodile. You take a packed lunch in the bush and return for dinner at camp.
- Day 4
Second Mara day
You choose the pace today. Many guests ask for a long stay with a lion pride or a search for leopard. A balloon ride at dawn is optional. Your 13 day Kenya safari beach holiday is now at its wildest.
- Day 5
Mara to Nairobi
After a last early game drive you check out and drive to Nairobi. The trip takes five to six hours. You reach the city by late afternoon and sleep at a hotel, with time to repack and wash clothes.
- Day 6
Nairobi to Amboseli
You leave Nairobi at about 8 am and drive south. The journey takes four to five hours. You reach your lodge for lunch and rest, then take an afternoon game drive across the swamps, with Kilimanjaro in the background.
- Day 7
Full day in Amboseli
You rise early for the mountain at dawn. Your guide drives to Observation Hill for the view and the herds below. You also look for lion, cheetah, giraffe and birds around the marsh. You drive again in the afternoon.
- Day 8
Amboseli to Tsavo West
After breakfast you drive about three hours to Tsavo West. You stop for lunch, then visit Mzima Springs for hippos and crocodiles in clear pools. You sleep near the black lava fields.
- Day 9
Tsavo West to Diani
After a short morning game drive you leave for the coast through Voi and Mombasa. You take the Likoni ferry and reach Diani by late afternoon. You check in at your beach hotel and walk to the sea.
- Day 10
Beach day
Today is yours. Swim, snorkel, walk the beach or book a spa treatment. The reef keeps the water calm and colobus monkeys visit the trees by the hotel.
- Day 11
Wasini Island and Kisite
You sail out at dawn for the Wasini Island and Kisite dolphin trip. You snorkel on the reef, watch for dolphins and eat a seafood lunch on Wasini. The trip costs about USD 120 per person and is optional.
- Day 12
Free day
Take another slow day. Ride a horse on the beach, try kite surfing, play golf or visit the Shimba Hills for sable antelope. Many guests do nothing at all, which is also a plan.
- Day 13
Fly to Nairobi
You have breakfast and a last swim, then check out. A driver takes you to Ukunda for your flight to Nairobi, which takes about an hour and ten minutes. Book your international flight for the evening. Your 13 day Kenya safari beach holiday ends with a calm flight over the Chyulu Hills and the Rift Valley.

What a 13 day Kenya safari beach holiday Really Gives You
Thirteen days lets you do Kenya properly. A 13 day Kenya safari beach holiday covers four parks, two landscapes and a long rest at the end. You see big cats, rhino, elephants and the sea without feeling rushed.
If you only have a week, see our Kenya safari and beach holiday packages page for shorter plans. For longer, ask us about adding Tanzania or Zanzibar, see our Kenya safari and Zanzibar holiday.
How Much Is a 13 day Kenya safari beach holiday?
Our guide prices start at USD 4,050 per person for six people on the budget tier in low season. Two people on the mid range tier pay about USD 5,500 each. Two people on the luxury tier pay about USD 7,500 each.
The price covers your vehicle, guide, all park fees, eight safari nights, one Nairobi night, four beach nights and the flight to Nairobi. The Mara camp and the beach hotel are the two big swings in cost.
See our Kenya safari packages and prices page and our Kenya national park entry fees guide for the fee table.
How the 13 Days Are Spread
The trip has eight safari days, four beach days and a transfer day. Each park gets enough time to be worth the drive. The Mara gets three nights, Amboseli two and Nakuru and Tsavo one each.
You spend about 30 hours in the vehicle over thirteen days. That sounds like a lot, but most legs are four to six hours and the scenery changes constantly. A 13 day Kenya safari beach holiday also gives you three clean rest days at the sea.

Best Time for a 13 day Kenya safari beach holiday
Jul to Oct and Jan to Mar are the best months. The Mara is dry, Amboseli has clear skies and the coast is warm. Jul to Oct brings the Great Migration into the Mara and the highest Mara fees.
Apr and May are wet and cheap. Nov brings short rains. Christmas is busy and costly. Read our best time to visit the Maasai Mara and our Kenya safari month by month guide, then check the Kenya public holidays and peak dates for peak weekends.
Safari Stays and Beach Hotels
Budget stays use simple camps and hotels with clean rooms and full meals. Mid range stays give you private bathrooms, pools and better views. Luxury stays give you large suites, bars and the best guides.
Our guide to lodges, tented camps and camping compares lodges and tented camps. For beach choices, see our Diani beach holiday packages page.
- Budget: simple rooms or tents, full meals, shared facilities in some
- Mid range: private bathrooms, a pool and a lounge, beachfront on the coast
- Luxury: spacious suites, a pool, a bar and top service, all inclusive meals at the beach
What You Can Expect to See
At Nakuru you see rhino and flamingos in season. In the Mara you look for lion, cheetah, leopard and wildebeest. In Amboseli you see elephants and Kilimanjaro. In Tsavo you see red elephants and lava fields.
On a 13 day Kenya safari beach holiday, you can see the Big Five on a good run. Our guide to the Big Five in Kenya and our Kenya safari animals guide show where to look.
Beach Days at Diani
After eight days of early starts, Diani feels like a different trip. The beach is long and white, the water is warm and the reef keeps waves small. Colobus monkeys, baobab trees and palms line the sand.
The Diani and Wasini Island dolphin trip is the most popular day out. The Shimba Hills day trip adds sable antelope and a waterfall. The Mombasa dhow sunset cruise makes a calm evening treat from Mombasa.
Who This Trip Suits
The 13 day Kenya safari beach holiday suits couples marking a big occasion, families with children over 8 and friends who want a long holiday. It also suits repeat visitors who want to see parks they missed before.
It is not the best plan for travellers who dislike early starts or long drives. If that is you, ask us for a version with fewer parks and more nights in each. The price drops a little as well.
Seniors do well when we pick comfortable lodges and flatter drives. See our Kenya safaris for seniors for a quieter style of trip.
Health, Packing and Comfort
Every park on this route is a malaria area, so speak to your doctor about tablets and pack repellent. Bring neutral clothes for safari and swimwear for the beach.
Domestic flights use soft bags of about 15 to 20 kg. Leave extra luggage at your Nairobi hotel. Our Kenya safari packing checklist and Kenya vaccinations and malaria guide cover the details.
