Day by day plan

  1. Day 1

    Nairobi to Male

You fly from Nairobi to Dubai and on to Male. Allow 12 to 15 hours in total, depending on the layover. Maldives time is two hours ahead of Nairobi. You clear immigration with your hotel booking and your online traveller declaration. A speedboat or seaplane takes you to your island. Late arrivals may sleep near the airport.

  2. Day 2

    Reef and beach

After breakfast you walk the beach and swim in the shallow lagoon. The guesthouse plan includes a snorkelling trip to a reef with turtles and colourful fish. At a resort, you join the house reef or a water sport. Lunch and dinner are at your hotel or a local cafe.

  3. Day 3

    Sandbank and dolphins

A boat takes you to a sandbank for a picnic lunch. You swim in water that is knee deep and bright blue. In the late afternoon you look for dolphins at sunset. At a resort, you can swap this day for a spa or a sunset cruise. Evenings are quiet with a long dinner.

  4. Day 4

    Free day

Today is yours. Choose a kayak, a paddle board, a spa treatment or a lazy hammock. Local islands have small shops and cafes. Resorts have bars and restaurants. Pack early, because tomorrow is a long travel day.

  5. Day 5

    Return to Male and home

A speedboat or seaplane takes you back to Male. Check in at Velana airport at least three hours before your flight. You connect through Dubai and land in Nairobi that night or the next morning. Declare any big purchases at customs.

What Maldives packages from Kenya include

Our Maldives packages from Kenya cover your flight, four hotel nights, transfers and a few activities. You pick between a local island guesthouse, a 4 star resort or a 5 star water villa. Each choice changes the price, the food and the atmosphere.

We tell you in writing which transfer is included, which meals are covered and which taxes you pay at the hotel. That is how you compare quotes honestly.

  • Local island: a guesthouse with a beach, cafes and day trips
  • 4 star resort: a private island, a house reef and half board
  • 5 star water villa: a villa over the lagoon and a seaplane transfer

How much do Maldives packages from Kenya cost

A local island guesthouse costs KES 138,000 per person sharing for 5 days and 4 nights with return flights. A 4 star resort costs KES 219,000 and a 5 star water villa costs KES 364,000. Single travellers pay KES 166,000, KES 325,000 and KES 576,000.

Flights through Dubai cost about USD 690 return in our model. The rest is the hotel, the transfer and activities. Read our guide to what a trip really costs to see how we price each part.

Resort island or local island for Maldives packages from Kenya

A resort island has one hotel on a private island. You get white sand, a house reef and full service. A local island is a real village with guesthouses, cafes and shops. It costs far less and gives you contact with Maldivian life.

Local islands follow Islamic rules. Alcohol is not sold and swimwear is allowed only on a designated tourist beach. Resorts serve alcohol and allow swimwear everywhere on the island. Pick the island type that matches your values and budget.

Which is better for a first trip?

Choose a local island if cost matters most. Choose a resort if you want privacy, alcohol and top service.

Maldives packages from Kenya: what you will see

Can you visit the Maldives on a budget from Nairobi

Yes, on a local island. Guesthouses cost about USD 60 to 100 per room per night and local cafes serve meals for USD 5 to 12. Speedboats cost much less than seaplanes. Read our Maldives on a budget plan for the full local island version.

Resorts remain the choice for honeymooners and travellers who want everything handled. Our Maldives honeymoon packages show resort and water villa prices.

How do I fly from Nairobi to the Maldives

There is no direct flight. You connect through Dubai, Doha or Addis Ababa. The Nairobi to Dubai leg takes about 5 hours 30 minutes and Dubai to Male takes about 4 hours. With the layover, the whole journey takes 12 to 15 hours.

Flydubai has priced one way fares from about KES 43,853, so a return fare of about KES 88,000 is a fair guide. Fares change by season and demand. We choose a routing with a comfortable layover and send the schedule in your quote.

Do Kenyans need a visa for the Maldives

The Maldives has given Kenyan passport holders a free 30 day visa on arrival. You need a passport valid for six months, a return ticket, a confirmed hotel booking and enough funds. You must also fill an online traveller declaration before you land.

Rules can change. We confirm the current rule when you book your Maldives packages from Kenya and complete the online form with you. Read our guide to vaccinations and travel health and carry your yellow card.

Best time for Maldives packages from Kenya

November to April is the dry season, with sun, calm seas and the highest prices. December to March is the peak. May to October is the wetter season, with more cloud and some rain, but also lower prices and good diving.

The wet months bring manta rays and whale sharks to some atolls. Showers are usually short. If your budget is tight, travel in May, June or September.

Costs on the ground with Maldives packages from Kenya

On a local island expect a meal at USD 5 to 12 in a cafe and USD 15 to 30 at a nicer restaurant. Bottled water, snacks and a bike hire are cheap. At a resort a meal costs USD 30 to 80 and drinks are priced high. A Maldivian rufiyaa is worth about KES 8, but USD is widely accepted.

Plan USD 20 to 40 a day on a local island and USD 60 to 120 a day at a resort, on top of your Maldives packages from Kenya. Cards work at hotels and bigger shops.

What to pack

  • Light cotton clothes, with shoulders and knees covered in village areas
  • Swimwear, a rash vest and reef safe sunscreen
  • A snorkel mask if you own one
  • A UK style plug adapter and a power bank
  • A light rain jacket
  • Printed ticket, hotel booking, declaration and passport copy

Pay in instalments and book in one place

You pay a deposit to hold the trip. The balance can be paid in instalments before you travel, by Mpesa, bank transfer or card on our secure Pesapal checkout. See the holiday payment plan for the schedule.

To reserve your Maldives packages from Kenya, open book and pay or message us on WhatsApp. All our overseas trips sit on our international holidays page.

Who this trip suits

These Maldives packages from Kenya suit couples, divers, snorkellers and friends who want clear water and calm days. They are less suited to travellers who want nightlife or shopping. For those, our Dubai holiday packages fit better.

Comparing islands? Our Seychelles holiday packages and Mauritius holiday packages show other ways to spend a beach week.

How many nights to book on Maldives packages from Kenya

Four nights is the best minimum for Maldives packages from Kenya, because the flight is long. Five or six nights give you time to rest and add a diving day or a second island. Three nights feels short once the journey is counted.

If you have ten days, split them across two islands. Spend a few nights on a local island and a few at a resort, or add a day in Dubai on the way home.

Safety, health and good habits in the Maldives

The Maldives is safe and friendly, which suits first time buyers of Maldives packages from Kenya. Respect local dress rules in villages and ask before photographing people. Never touch coral or feed fish. Use reef safe sunscreen and a rash vest to protect your skin.

Medical help on small islands is basic, so travel insurance with evacuation matters. Carry regular medicine in original packs. Drink bottled or filtered water.
