Day by day plan
- Day 1
Nairobi to Cairo
You fly from JKIA to Cairo in about five hours. A driver meets you at arrivals and takes you to a hotel near the airport. You sleep, because the next morning starts early with a flight south. If you want the pyramids, ask us about the longer Cairo version of this trip. A Nile cruise package from Nairobi works best when the first night is a quiet one.
- Day 2
Fly to Luxor and board the ship
After breakfast you fly to Luxor in about one hour 15 minutes. You board your ship for lunch, drop your bags in your cabin and set off for Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple with your guide. Karnak is a forest of giant columns. Luxor Temple glows at sunset. Dinner and the night are on board.
- Day 3
Valley of the Kings and sailing to Edfu
Cross to the West Bank. You walk into the royal tombs, see Hatshepsut Temple and stop at the Colossi of Memnon. After lunch the ship sails to Edfu through green fields and palm groves. Spend the afternoon on the sun deck with tea and a good book.
- Day 4
Edfu and Kom Ombo
A horse carriage takes you to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, one of the best preserved in Egypt. The ship then sails on to Kom Ombo. You visit the twin temple of Sobek and Horus at sunset. Tonight many ships hold a Nubian or galabeya party, which is good fun.
- Day 5
Aswan, Philae and a felucca sail
At Aswan you visit the High Dam and take a small boat to Philae Temple, set on its own island. In the afternoon you ride a felucca around Elephantine Island and you can add a visit to a Nubian village. Your last night on board is a farewell dinner.
- Day 6
Leave the ship and fly home
Leave the ship after breakfast. You can add an early trip to Abu Simbel for an extra fee. You fly Aswan to Cairo and connect to Nairobi the same day, or we arrange a day room in Cairo. You land in Nairobi with a camera full of columns.

How Much Is a Nile Cruise Package from Nairobi?
Our guide prices are KES 183,000 on a 4 star ship, KES 205,000 on a 5 star ship and KES 260,000 on a luxury ship. Each is per person sharing a twin cabin for 6 days and 5 nights, flights included.
Land only offers listed online start near USD 475 for four days and three nights. That price leaves out your flight from Nairobi. A Nile cruise package from Nairobi must carry the long haul fare and the domestic flights, so compare the full total.
Prices move with the season and the ship. Booking ten to twelve weeks ahead gives you the best choice of cabins. A Nile cruise package from Nairobi in December often sells out earlier.
Is a Nile Cruise Worth It?
For most travellers, yes. A ship lets you see four big temples in four days without packing and unpacking. Meals, guides and transfers are done for you. You rest between sights, so the trip stays easy for older parents. Every Nile cruise package from Nairobi we sell is private for your party, so you choose the date.
A Nile cruise package from Nairobi is not for everyone. If you hate group schedules, add private days in Cairo instead. If you get seasick, know that the river is calm. The ship moves slowly and often stays moored at night.
What Our Nile Cruise Package from Nairobi Includes
You get one booking for the long flight, the internal flights, the ship, the guide and the entry tickets. We also handle the visa step with you. That means one team to call if a flight changes.
Want pyramids too? See our Egypt tour packages from Kenya with three nights in Cairo. Want the sea? See Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh holiday packages.

Nile Ship Tiers Explained
All tiers include full board and the guided shore visits. The tier changes cabin size, the pool and the quality of the buffet.
Ships also differ by the length of the cruise. Three night trips run Aswan to Luxor and four night trips run Luxor to Aswan. We price the four night version because it includes the Valley of the Kings and a relaxed Aswan day.
- 4 star ship: smaller cabins, a sun deck, a fixed menu and a friendly crew
- 5 star ship: bigger cabins with river views, a small pool and a wider buffet
- Luxury ship: suites with balconies, a spa and an a la carte dinner
- Single travellers pay about 40 to 60 percent more on the cruise part
Visa for Egypt for Kenyan Passport Holders
Kenyan passport holders normally need a visa before travel. Egypt offers an online visa and a sticker visa. Fees through agents have run from about USD 30 to 115, depending on the type. Rules change, so we confirm the current rule when you book. A Nile cruise package from Nairobi cannot be confirmed until the entry rule is clear.
- Passport valid for at least 6 months, with blank pages
- A clear colour passport photo
- Confirmed flights and ship booking, which we supply
- A yellow fever certificate may be asked for on arrival from Kenya
- Send your documents on WhatsApp and we prepare the application
What a Day on the Ship Feels Like
Mornings start early, because temples are cooler at dawn. Breakfast is a buffet. Your guide meets the group on the quay at an agreed time and you walk to the site or ride a short bus. Visits last one to two hours. You return for lunch, then sail or rest.
Afternoons are slow. Read on deck, swim in the small pool or watch farmers and buffalo on the bank. Dinner is at a fixed hour. Some ships add a bellydancer or a Nubian band. Rooms are quiet and the ship rocks very little, so most guests sleep well on a Nile cruise package from Nairobi.
Best Months for a Nile Cruise Package from Nairobi
October to April is the best window, with warm days of 24 to 30 degrees on the river and cool nights. December and January are busiest and priciest. May to September is very hot, above 40 degrees at midday, but cabins cost less and ships have empty decks. Plan these costs into your Nile cruise package from Nairobi budget.
Ramadan changes the feel of the trip. Some sites shorten their hours and daytime eating in public is restricted. Check the dates when you plan.
Costs on the Ground and What to Pack
Meals are included on the ship, so you spend little. Drinks on board are paid for. Tipping is part of the culture. Budget about USD 8 to 12 per day for guides and staff and KES 15,000 to 25,000 for drinks and souvenirs.
- Light cotton clothes, a hat, sunglasses and sun cream
- A scarf and modest outfits for mosques and temples
- Comfortable closed shoes for rough ground
- A sweater for cool evenings on deck
- Small USD notes for tips and a European two pin plug adapter
- A galabeya for the party night, if you like dressing up
