Day by day plan
- Day 1
Arusha to Tarangire
You leave Arusha at about 8.30 am and reach Tarangire National Park in 2 hours. After a picnic lunch you start a game drive among baobabs. Elephant herds are common and so are giraffes and zebras. You sleep in a lodge or tented camp near the park.
- Day 2
Tarangire to Lake Manyara and Karatu
You enjoy one more game drive in Tarangire, then drive to Lake Manyara. The park has forest, a soda lake and monkeys. You may spot hippos and flamingos. After lunch you drive up to Karatu and sleep near the crater rim.
- Day 3
Ngorongoro Crater and fly to Zanzibar
You descend into the crater at about 6.30 am. Black rhino, lion, hyena and flamingos live on the floor. You climb out by late morning and drive to Arusha, about 3.5 hours. A flight of about 1.5 hours takes you to Zanzibar. A driver meets you and takes you to your beach hotel.

Stone Town and spice farm
You spend the morning in Stone Town. Walk through old alleys, see carved doors and visit the Old Fort. A spice farm tour follows, where you taste fruit, cloves and vanilla. You return to the beach by late afternoon for a swim and a slow dinner.

Beach day
Today you do nothing. Swim in the warm sea, read, nap or snorkel. The hotel offers massages and sunset drinks. If you want an outing, you can book a dhow cruise at your own cost.
- Day 6
Snorkel trip or more beach
You can join a boat trip to a reef or to a sandbank for snorkelling and seafood lunch. Others prefer to stay at the hotel. Your last evening is free. We can book a beach dinner with a table by the water.
- Day 7
Departure
You have a relaxed breakfast, pack and take the airport transfer. If your flight is late, the hotel can hold your luggage. We can add a night or two if you wish.

Best Time for Tanzania Safari and Zanzibar Packages
Jun to Oct is the best window for both. Parks are dry and Zanzibar is sunny and cooler. Dec to Feb is hot and good for beaches and calving season.

Zanzibar sits just south of the equator, so it is warm all year. Humidity is high from Mar to May. Sea breezes keep Jun to Oct pleasant. Dec to Feb brings hot sun and calm seas.
Pack light fabrics and a rain jacket. Tides are strong on the east coast, so swimming at low tide is limited at some beaches. We tell you before you pick your hotel.
Is Seven Days Enough?
Seven days is a good start for Tanzania safari and Zanzibar packages. You see the key sights and still rest. If you want the Serengeti, add two or three days and choose a 10 or 11 day plan.
